Police Operatives in Niger state have arrested three suspects for allegedly killing a 65-year-old woman over allegations of witchcraft.
Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said the arrest followed a report that one Mohammed Sani trespassed into the residence of a community member and killed one Tani Nuhu, a female of 65 years in the house,
According to Abiodun, those arrested include Mohammed Sani of Kebbi State, Isa Lamaran 65 years of of Kokolo village via Auna District and Abdullahi Hamidu of the same area.
“During interrogation, Mohammed revealed that he was contracted and invited as a wizard who could detect witches by Isa Lamaran, Hamidu and one other suspect, Rufa’i Gado of Kokolo village currently at large, to kill three elderly women in the community over allegations that they were witches,” he said.
He PPRO explained further that Mohammed confessed that Isa gave him a hoe to use in perpetrating the crime while Abdullahi promised to give him two plots of land and his daughter’s hand in marriage if he succeeded.
Mohammed succeeded in killing one victim, Tani and grievously injured another before his arrest.
Abiodun said all suspects were currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID Minna undergoing further investigation to arrest the other accomplice after which they would be charged to court for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
